Ulbricht was arrested in October 2013 in San Francisco and accused of running the notorious website — which sold drugs and other illegal products while accepting bitcoin as payment — under the pseudonym “Dread Pirate Roberts.” Ulbricht was convicted in February 2015 on charges including drug trafficking and conspiracies to commit money laundering and computer hacking. He was sentenced that May to two life terms in prison, plus 40 years.

Ulbricht had unsuccessfully appealed his conviction and sentence up to the Supreme Court, leaving him to serve out his time at a maximum security prison in Arizona.

During his campaign, then-candidate Trump said he intended to commute "Silk road" website operator Ross Ulbricht's life sentence during a speech at the Libertarian National Convention in May 2024. At the convention, the crowd was filled with "Free Ross" signs and many attendees were chanting "Free Ross."

President Donald Trump has signed a full pardon to Ross Ulbricht, founder of the anonymous marketplace website website Silk Road, he announced Tuesday.

Trump announced the pardon on Truth Social.

“I just called the mother of Ross William Ulbright to let her know that in honor of her and the Libertarian Movement, which supported me so strongly, it was my pleasure to have just signed a full and unconditional pardon of her son, Ross. “The scum that worked to convict him were some of the same lunatics who were involved in the modern day weaponization of government against me. He was given two life sentences, plus 40 years. Ridiculous!”

Im happy for him. Still, i can’t help but wondering if Musk has anything to do with this. And if so, what are his plans for this guy or the dark web.

@user-gc3yk4zb4e says:

You hypocrites are unbelivable. "México sells drugs let's invade their country", some hot-dog eating clown sells drugs you celebrate he gets out of jail. Your hipocrisy leaves me speechless.

@coslifehurts says:

According to the book Silk Road, Ross ordered the murders of 5 people (page 279) which is completely ignored here. The police caught him in a sting operation.

@SuperPixelInferno says:

Drugs should have never been illegal in the first place. Biggest policy failure in human history and has directly contributed to harm due to its unregulated nature. An adult is capable of deciding if they want to take a substance or not. Their body, their choice… If the government is sooo concerned about peoples health though why dont they start going after soda and fast food companies that contribute to early deaths and various health problem? Should we arrest a guy who has a bottle of pepsi in his truck to "protect him from himself?'. The idea that someone should be able to control anothers body to such a degree is a disgusting and total violation of bodily autonomy and anyone enforcing such laws is a much worse criminal than those consuming substances….

@neoudi2024 says:

Please President Trump, fully pardoned Bevelyn Beatty Williams a pro life..

@bengermain8310 says:

I’m confused, so in America if someone approaches you with intent to hurt you, you’re allowed to ‘defend’ yourself with a firearm. And if you use that firearm in defense it’s ok. But, if you’re a police officer and get attacked my a mob, they’re ok to attack you and avoid prison? Is this Trump logic?

@Yontramal0424 says:

So if this is okay then why not just go ahead legalize Marijuana nationwide. And pardon those convicted of Marijuana charges. No natter what platform was used to conduct the business …it was still drug sells right? Just curious.

@Sbc644 says:
