But lately, I've been experimenting with a different practice. I called it "non-drug psychedelic experience."

The set and setting are similar. I lie down on my back, put on eye shades, and headphones while listening to a carefully curated playlist.

The only difference is this: I don't take any drugs.

What I have found is that music on its own can be a powerful non-specific amplifier. After 20 to 30 minutes of this, I feel refreshed, more open, and like I've just gone on a mini-journey through the mind.

If you're interested in trying it out, I have created three non-drug psychedelic playlists on my Spotify account.

Everyone seems to be talking about the therapeutic potential of psychedelics these days.

For my new book Open, I’ve spent more than a year engaged in various forms of psychedelic assisted therapy. I have experienced profound insights and the deep healing of long-standing trauma patterns.

But I’ve also noticed this. You don’t necessarily need psychedelic drugs to have these kinds of experiences.

At their core, psychedelics are really just “non-specific amplifiers.” They turn up the volume on certain elements of our experience in such a way that we see our mind and the world with fresh eyes and disrupt long-standing patterns of thought and emotion.
