Many people speak about psychedelics as though they are a temporary departure from reality. A journey into a more meaningful world before returning to ordinary life.

But what if that framing misses the point?

In this clip from Episode 31 of Conversations for the End, Dylan Francisco argues that the value of psychedelic or plant medicine experiences is not found in escaping the world, but in learning to inhabit it more fully.

If these experiences reveal beauty, depth, interconnectedness, or meaning, then the task is not to leave those insights behind in the Amazon, the retreat centre, or the memory of a profound experience. The task is to allow them to transform how we relate to everyday life.

The danger is creating two separate worlds: the enchanted world of peak experiences and the disenchanted world of ordinary existence.

For Dylan, those worlds must become one.

Not a spirituality of departure, but a spirituality of return.

A way of reducing the veils that separate us from the depth already present in our relationships, our communities, and the world around us.
