Among the many topics we cover:

• What brought each of them into psychedelic research.
• What traumatic brain injury, chronic hypoxic-ischemic brain injury, and post-concussive syndrome are.
• Dosing protocol used in the study.
• Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), the therapy used in the study, and how it differs from other forms of psychotherapy.
• The results of the case series across physical, cognitive, and emotional symptoms.
• Where iboga comes from and how it has traditionally been used.
• Whether there was any prior signal, even anecdotal, that low-dose psychedelics help in neurological or neurodegenerative conditions.

Ibogaine, the principal psychoactive alkaloid in iboga, has been making headlines for its potential to treat substance use disorders. But this episode turns to the iboga plant itself, and to a different question: can an integrative iboga microdosing protocol help an injured brain heal? We move beyond addiction to explore this protocol as a potential treatment for traumatic brain injury.

Jake speaks with Dr. Burton J. Tabaac and Teresa Yung, who co-authored a paper recently published in full in Frontiers in Pharmacology, titled “Clinical improvement following an integrative iboga microdosing protocol in post-concussive and hypoxic brain injury syndromes: a case series.”

Well done! Excellent interview. Congratulations on the paper. This is a big deal!

@keidiawadu4333 says:

Iboga is a West and Central African shrub, and its root bark contains the psychoactive alkaloid ibogaine. Traditionally, it has been used in Bwiti and related ceremonies for spiritual initiation, healing, and stimulation, while modern interest centers on addiction-related uses. Thanks for acknowledging the traditional practitioners of this ancient TAM.
